Emergency Repair: Case 1
This young lady had an unfortunate accident while riding her bicycle and did your basic face plant. All kidding aside this can be a very traumatic event for anyone for several reasons. There are the obvious bruises and scrapes and the permanent damage to the teeth involved. But emotionally this can be difficult too. The teeth that have been traumatized can die and eventually require root canal treatment and perhaps porcelain restorations of some type. Your self-esteem takes a hit when this sort of thing happens too, not only because of the physical damage but because of the loss of confidence resulting from the accident itself. On top of that, this young lady had final exams to get through in the next several days and she didn’t need this kind of disruption in her life. I needed to get her fixed up, feeling good about herself as quickly as possible and assure her that everything would be alright in the long run. She had already been to the emergency room to be evaluated. Once I checked her out for other damage within her mouth and discussed other long-term considerations we just did some basic bonding. A little thing can go a long way. She came into my office feeling horrible, wondering whether her teeth could be saved and left assured that everything would be okay and ready to get back to work getting ready for her exams.
