Implant Dentist Peter D. Gold – Providing Dental Implants to the Schenectady, Albany, and Saratoga Region
Dr. Peter D. Gold, an experienced implant dentist serving the Schenectady, Albany, Saratoga, and Clifton Park area, uses dental implants, to improve the oral health and smiles of patients who are missing some or all of their natural teeth. While dental implants are often recognized as the most aesthetically pleasing replacement for missing teeth, they serve a practical function as well-that is, to maintain proper tooth alignment and jaw strength without causing damage to the adjacent teeth.
If you are missing a tooth, you may feel uncomfortable smiling or laughing, especially if the gap is plainly visible. Tooth loss-often a consequence of age, injury, or periodontal disease - not only causes self-consciousness and loss of function but it also affects the shape of the face through bone loss in the jaw. Dental implants look like natural teeth, but, unlike natural teeth, they do not decay or require root canal treatment. Most importantly, they keep the jaw from falling into disuse, thus preventing bone loss and providing further support for the jaw. Dental implants can be used to secure a single crown, a dental bridge, or even partial and full dentures.
Dental Implant Procedure
The process for placing dental implants takes place in three parts over several months. Dr. Gold works closely with only the best local surgeons to carefully plan your implant restorations. During the first visit the implants, titanium rods that act as replacements for the natural tooth roots, are placed into the jaw. These rods secure the restorations in place by fusing with the jaw bone. While your jaw heals, your mouth will be fitted with a temporary denture or a bridge by Dr. Gold.
The healing process is the second part of the procedure. Healing takes place over the span of three to six months. Your jaw must heal completely before the permanent implant restorations are placed. Dr. Gold may also recommend a diet of soft foods and advise that you make sure that the area remains clean while healing takes place.
The third and final part of the procedure is the placement of the restoration onto the dental implant. Once Dr. Gold is confident that your jaw has healed completely, he will place the replacement tooth or teeth on the titanium rod. The result is a complete and beautiful smile.
