Porcelain Veneers
A popular way to beautify an otherwise imperfect smile, porcelain veneers look and function like natural teeth and are an option for patients with chipped, stained, or crooked teeth. Porcelain veneers are placed on the top of your natural teeth to create the appearance of an even, white, flawless smile.
The entire procedure is completed in three visits. During the first visit, Dr. Gold will determine the size and shape of the porcelain veneers that will give you the most natural smile. During the second visit, he will shave down the enamel of the teeth, so that the veneers will easily adhere to the surface. Temporary veneers will lie on your teeth until the permanent ones are crafted at a laboratory and sent to our practice in Schenectady. Finally, when the permanent porcelain veneers are ready, Dr. Gold will remove the temporary veneers and affix the permanent ones to your teeth. The result is an improved version of your natural smile.
Teeth Whitening
For those who desire a whiter smile, Dr. Gold offers Ultradent® Opalescence® Boost in-office power bleaching, a chemically-activated teeth whitening gel, to his Albany, Saratoga, and Schenectady-area patients. Unlike other professional whitening systems, Ultradent® Boost does not need light to activate the whitening chemicals. And since the gel is mixed specifically for each patient, Ultradent® Boost is a hygienic option for those who want to remove stubborn stains that affect their smiles. In only an hour, your smile will be brighter and whiter.
For those who prefer a take-home teeth whitening option, Dr. Gold recommends the Nite White® and Day White® whitening systems. Nite White® uses whitening gel trays, filled by Dr. Gold, for the patient to use overnight for 10 to 14 days. Similarly, the Day White® system is a daytime alternative consisting of whitening gel trays that patients use for 30 minutes twice daily. Treatment requires about two weeks, producing results that last for several months.
Tooth-colored Fillings
Having a cavity filled no longer means conspicuous silver fillings. Dr. Gold can fill cavities with white composite resin that he matches to the exact shade of your teeth. White fillings protect the tooth from further decay and blend in with the surrounding teeth.
Commonly used to treat minor cavities, tooth-colored fillings can help a patient avoid more invasive dental work such as dental crowns and dental bridges. The consistency of tooth-colored fillings varies by where it will be placed in your mouth. For cavities on the front teeth, a smoother resin is used to blend in and create a more natural appearance. For cavities on the back teeth, the composite resin is stronger to compensate for the amount of pressure these teeth need to fully break down food.
For those patients who want an alternative to the appearance of the amalgam fillings they already have, Dr. Gold can remove and replace these fillings with tooth-colored ones to create a uniform appearance. With tooth-colored fillings, you can smile with confidence knowing that no one can see your dental work.
Dental Crowns and Bridges
Made of metal, ceramic, or porcelain, dental crowns are used to cover severely decayed or damaged teeth, restoring strength while improving the appearance of your smile. The treatment is completed in two visits. During the first visit, Dr. Gold will make an impression of the tooth and then prepare the tooth for the permanent crown. A temporary crown will be placed until the permanent crown is completed. On the second visit, Dr. Gold will affix the permanent crown.
Used in conjunction with dental bridges at our Schenectady office, dental crowns can serve to replace one or more natural teeth. Dental bridges are perfect for those who are missing teeth or whose teeth are so severely damaged that extraction is the most suitable option. Bridges consist of an artificial tooth anchored by two crowns, implants, or natural teeth. As with the placement of crowns, the bridge procedure requires two office visits. During the first visit, Dr. Gold will make impressions of the teeth that will receive the crowns as well as the space where the tooth or teeth are missing. When the dental lab finishes creating the ceramic or porcelain replacement teeth, the crowns will be fused to either side of the false tooth and cemented into place.
Dental Bonding
Dental bonding repairs cracks, chips, or discolorations that can appear on teeth. Dr. Gold can sculpt the bonding resin to simulate the seamless natural contours and shape of the teeth. Using composite resin on the tooth helps increase its core strength and improve the appearance of your smile.
Though the procedure is typically completed in a single office visit, more extensive work may require additional visits. At the start of the procedure, Dr. Gold will use air abrasion to prepare the tooth and help the composite resin stick. He will then shape and smooth the resin so that it blends with the rest of your teeth. Dental bonding is for patients who want a quick and lasting way to repair their teeth, and for those who are seeking an alternative to more extensive procedures such as porcelain veneers.
Inlays and Onlays
Made from porcelain or composite resin, dental inlays and onlays are used to repair mildly decayed or cracked rear teeth or molars. Inlays are used for molars with decay or damage on the inside of the top of the tooth. Conversely, onlays correct damage or decay on the cusps of the molars.
In addition to the above treatments, Dr. Gold also offers soft tissue recontouring, a minor oral surgery that takes less than an hour, with the PICASSO soft tissue laser. Meant for patients with an uneven gum line or those who are self-conscious about their "gummy" smiles, the procedure reshapes gum tissue and evens out the gum line, giving the appearance of an even, proportional smile.
Dr. Gold seeks to improve the smiles and oral health of those in the Schenectady, Albany, and Saratoga areas. From porcelain veneers and dental crowns and bridges to teeth whitening and dental bonding, Dr. Gold offers a variety of cosmetic treatments that can help you meet your goal of having a beautiful, healthy smile.
